One of the ways to ensure that we conserve water is by using greywater systems to reduce usage of water. Given California’s tendency for droughts, recapturing and reusing water helps us in conserving water and ensuring that tenants have access to water in times of need.

Part of our journey towards sustainability and resiliency emerged from our experiences with the power grid in the summer of 2019, when the Holos Communities (then Clifford Beers Housing) offices were impacted by power outages. Unfortunately, the blackout coincided with staff working towards a critical deadline.

When designing and building developments, looking at how they integrate with the surrounding landmarks is a key part to ensuring that residents have the best quality of life.

When it comes to developing affordable housing in an expedited manner that tackles concurrent crises, we need integrated solutions that solve for the lack of housing, the impacts of climate change and racial inequity together.

One of the most reliable vehicles in financing affordable housing today is the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC). While LIHTC is the primary tool in funding affordable housing, the process is lengthy and costly.

Ensuring that our residents have access to the resources and utilities needed in case of an emergency is a challenge we at Holos Communities have been working to address.

I am pleased to announce that Clifford Beers Housing will, henceforth, be known as Holos Communities. Inspired by the Greek word meaning “whole” or “all”, Holos manifests the creation of new, holistic paths for developing communities as living ecosystems.

We have been awarded funding for a Project Homekey development to be known as Avenida to rehabilitate the Avenue Hotel.

Thanks to the Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing (SOMAH) Program, Clifford Beers will be able to install solar panels at Holt.
